Two Roads Abode is about 12 miles from Shelbyville, home of Lake Shelbyville. But there are lots of things to do in addition to boating and swimming.

Below are a few of our favorite places.

Firefly Grill – located in Effingham (about 40 miles south), this is truly one of the best restaurants south of Chicago. They grow many of their veggies/herbs and often feature locally grown meat. Reservations suggested: (217)-342-2002

Bizou – 30 miles north of Two Roads in downtown Decatur the Bizou offers a great night out. Just south of Bizou in the same block is a nice little wine shop called the Decanter. The owners are knowledgeable and helpful. Reservations suggested: (217) 422-7000

Beach House – another Decatur option with a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Decatur. Reservations suggested: (217) 422-7202

Local Color – nothing fancy but good food and good people serving it

Mama Chan’s in Moweaqua (15 minutes away) serving authentic Thai cuisine and Asian dishes Thurs -Sunday 11am to 8pm 105 N Main St.


1905 Brewery in Assumption – Open afternoons and evenings Thursday – Saturday and Sunday 2 to 6pm. Five Assumption couples repurposed the old hardware store that had most recently been used as the newspaper office to a comfortable, casual, creative interior. They provide a variety of brews… several made from locally sourced ingredients. Wine, cider and sangria is also on tap. Bring your own snacks, buy their gourmet popcorn or catch them when a food truck parks outside. Check out their FB page or at

Arpeggio Winery – South of Assumption (but has a Pana address) 10 miles away. Go west on 2100 north road (the E/W blacktop just north of Two Roads) about 5 miles to the second stop sign at Route 51. Turn left (south) and proceed about 4 mile. The winery is on the east side of the road. Mike and Karen Swiney have a beautiful farm up on the hill where they grow and process grapes. The original barn was converted to the wine tasting building… two stories with balconies and wonderful views. Open 1-6pm Wed, Thurs & Sun; 1-8:30pm Fri and Sat.

Willow Ridge Winery – In Westervelt (but has a Shelbyville address) 8 miles away. GPS does work and you might need it – this is remote but worth the find. A lovely Tuscan-style tasting room with outdoor and indoor seating. Take your own snacks to enjoy as you sit and sip. Check their site or (217) 738-2323 for their events/music schedule.

Entertainment & Museums

Little Theatre on the Square – 30 minutes away in Sullivan, IL. Live productions with talented summer stock actor/actresses. There are several children’s productions as well during the summer months. or (217) 728-7375

Lincoln Presidential Museum – an hour away in Springfield, it is well worth the trip along with several other notable Springfield sites like Lincoln’s Home & Tomb, the IL State Museum, and the Dana Thomas House (beautifully restored Frank Lloyd Wright home). or (217) 558-8844

Children’s Museum of IL – Decatur has this incredible children’s museum sponsored by many of the large agri-businesses based there as well as Assumption’s Sloan Implement (largest privately owned John Deere dealership in the world). The Scovill Zoo is in the same complex and is very nice as well.
